Dr. Lawlis has been a pioneer in clinical and research methods of the mind-body relationship since 1968 when he received his Ph.D. in Psychology with an emphasis in medical psychology and rehabilitation.

He has been awarded the Diplomate (A.B.P.P.) in both Counseling Psychology and Clinical Psychology. He has also received the status of Fellow from the American Psychological Association for his scientific contributions to the field of clinical psychology and behavioral medicine, as well as many other awards for his pioneering research in this field.

He has served on the faculties of five prestigious medical schools, including:
  • New York Medical Center (1967-68)
  • Texas Tech Medical School (1973-75)
  • Universities of Texas Health Center (UTHC) at San Antonio (1975-76),
  • UTHC at Dallas (1979-89)
  • Stanford Medical School (1991-93).
He has served in the Departments of Psychiatry, Orthopedic Surgery, and Rehabilitation Medicine as well as on five graduate psychology faculties, and has blazed new trails in the care of patients with chronic and acute pain, cancer and psychosomatic problems.
Dr. Lawlis is a noted author, and has written or co-authored more than 100 professional articles and chapters as well as many best-selling books, including:

Dr. Lawlis co-founded the Lawlis and Peavey PsychoNeuroPlasticity Center in Lewisville Texas as place to implement an innovative new approach wherein an individual would have a thorough medical-psychological-neurological-sociological-family dynamics evaluations during the same week. With the intensive focus approach, the multilayers of interactions can be addressed quickly and with less frustration and discouragement. Moreover, there would be a specific plan to redevelop brain functions and coordinate their sequencing such that even major challenges could be overcome within a quicker time frame.
Dr. Lawlis is the supervisory psychologist for American Mensa - a national organization whose members have scored in the top two percent on an accepted, standardized intelligence test.

Presently, Dr. Lawlis is also serving as Spokesman for the Mental Health America Dallas Program called Operation: Healthy Reunions. This is a foundation-based program to help veterans form the Iraq and Afghanistan wars who are suffering from PTSD and ADD to return to their communities and families. He is coordinating training and treatment awareness.

The Dr. Phil Show - Finally, Dr. Frank Lawlis has been Chief Content and Oversite Adviser as well as Chairman of the Dr. Phil Advisory Board since the inception of the show. He is a frequent guest on the show, and is responsible for evaluating potential show themes and guests. He is a major force in the conception of the themes he interacts with every factor in the development with the shows.

Dr. Lawlis has also appeared on numerous national television programs as an expert on ADD/ADHD, PTSD, healing and brain plasticity.
